PHOTOMONTH IN KRAKOW — 2010
JOANNA CHUDY
Silesian Ulysses
Curator: Tomasz Sikora
This is a photographic journey through the streets of contemporary Silesia which, thanks to its riches, variety and contrasts, holds images like those from Joyce’s novel. The way Ulysses was written became the canvas and inspiration for photographing Silesia. The changeability of the plotlines, based on the principle of free association and imitating the stream of consciousness of the novel’s protagonist, is a unique form of internal monologue, which is crucially important to Silesian Ulysses.
The project moves away from the erstwhile conventions of photographic representation of Silesia. There are no documentary or reportage photographs; it extends beyond the traditional form in the direction of impressionistic images.
