Saturday's cleanup: Dusting off family archives!

News date: 2011-05-20

In the dense programme for the second weekend of Photomonth in Krakow, don’t forget about the unique social campaign we’ll be hosting on Saturday as part of our dedicated block on collecting. “Dusting off family archives” is a campaign carried out by the Archaeology of Photography Foundation as part of the Fotorejestr programme, addressed to everyone who has family photographic archives, and so, in fact, for everyone.
If you’d like to know how, with low cost and time, to save your unique and priceless images from the past, the only way to keep the memory of your ancestors alive, come and see the specialists from the Archaeology of Photography Foundation. In Warsaw, meetings like this take place on the last Wednesday of every month. This time, collectors of photographs from Krakow and its environs can talk about saving their own negatives and prints on the spot, in the Photomonth festival office in the Camelot Gallery, where on Saturday 21 May at 12:00, Karolina Lewandowska will be giving a lecture on the issues and techniques for protecting private archives. Then, there will be the opportunity for private consultations with Karolina Lewandowska and Marta Przybyło-Ibadullajev, between 12:45 and 16:00. The consultations are not only for those who have private collections of photographs, but also to those who would like to learn how to save their archives and are interested in collecting photography. We welcome all owners of multifarious photographic collections: during the consultation you can find out the material and historical value of the works you own, and discover simple and effective techniques for their safekeeping and preservation. Come and join us!
