A Very Photographic Saturday!

News date: 2011-05-20

The coming Saturday will be extremely photographic: and no wonder, since it’s 9 May and the 9 Photomonth in Krakow festival is running! All the Main Programme and ShowOFF Section are now open, and are waiting for you all round Krakow. But that's not all that’s waiting for you.
Starting at 11.00, some of you will meet with leading figures in photography during the VI Portfolio Review. We’d just like to remind you that this year, we are hosting, among others, Charlotte Cotton and Bill Kouwenhoven! A complete list of reviewers can be found on our website. Admission only for those already registered!
Another event today for which registration is required is the photojournalism workshops conducted by the Academy of Photography, which start at 11 o'clock
On the other hand, all are welcome to the free and open lecture by Karolina Lewandowska in the Camelot Gallery at 12:00. “Dusting off family archives” is a social campaign which we are strongly supporting. We are pleased that we can join forces and present it in Krakow as part of our block of accompanying events devoted to collecting. The campaign’s organiser, the Archaeology of Photography Foundation wants to contribute to the preservation of many yet unknown priceless photographs from the past, regardless of whether their value is only sentimental, or historical and translating into staggering sums. The campaign’s goal is primarily to disseminate basic, although often passed over, knowledge on the protection of home photo archives, and the need for a digital record. You’ll learn how, with only a low cost and time, to save priceless images from the past which, whatever their artistic value, are of great importance for studying the history of society and culture. Although it’s relatively obvious, not everyone knows or remembers that sometimes simply moving boxes of photographs away from the radiator, removing them from the basement, or repackaging the negatives can save a private collection from destruction.
At 16.00 in the newly opened MOCAK, there is the continuation of the collecting block. This time we’d like to invite you to a panel discussion titled Frames Mastered. Polish photography collecting, in which Marcel Andino-Velez, Łukasz Gorczyca, Wojciech Jędrzejewski, Piotr Lelek, Rafał Lewandowski, Konrad Pustoła, Maria Rubersz will be participating with moderator Anna Theiss.
Two hours later, still in MOCAK, there will be a meeting and presentation of the latest projects by the Sputnik Photos collective – IS (not). We are delighted to remind you that In the car with R, a project for which a member of Sputnik Milach Raphael recently received the Jury's Choice Grand Prize and Honorable Mention in the category Book Project at the prestigious New York Photo Festival, is part of the IS (not) project and book.
Finally, to finish the day at 19:00, we invite you to the Bezdomna Gallery, and from 21:00 we’ll be raving it up at Klub Fabryka’s first birthday party! Come and join us!
