From series New Poles, photo by Patryk Karbowski
Patryk Karbowski’s book is a continuation of the author’s documentary about contemporary secondary school pupils coming from the middle and upper social classes. Born after 1989, they don’t remember the turbulent period of the first half of the 90s. It is they – brought up in an era of consumption, rapid technological development, and online communities – who in the future will create the new Polish reality. The author participated in the daily lives of his heroes, attempting to capture the feeling of uncertainty that accompanies change, not just on the nationwide and historical scale, but also on the personal level associated with adolescence. The book, with text by Adam Mazur, was published by the Institute of Visual Culture in Warsaw.
Patryk Karbowski (born 1989) – graduate and currently lecturer at the Academy of Photography in Warsaw. He studied photography at the National Film School in ĹódĹş.
