FOTO-SOC-DESIGN 50TH 60TH
PHOTODESIGN AND THE "CIVILISATION" OF “PRZEKRÓJ” – A MEETING WITH WOJCIECH PLEWIĹSKI
Eustachy Kossakowski, Opening supermarket,1962
The Foto-soc-design 50th 60th project represents the first instalment of the Polish Photodesign project, and is a research, exhibition, and editorial event initiated by the Asymetria gallery, the Archaeology of Photography Foundation, and Raster. Our intention is to look at the history of a specific photographic genre – the photography of design. Through a series of exhibitions and an the publication of an album summary, we want to rediscover this intriguing, but little known area of Polish photographers’ output, and also show the history of Polish 20th-century design from a different perspective. We are interested not only in the role of photography in creating the aura of the product and its iconicity, and the importance of photographic documentation for historiography, but also subject matter and goods as a photographic subject, as well as the relationship between the artistic and commercial dimensions of photography. The scale of the exhibition is established by the history of Polish photography, and not cult design, whose career is accelerating alongside the development of production technologies.
A meeting with Wojciech PlewiĹski closes the Foto-soc-design 50th 60th exhibition at the Nuremberg House Gallery.
