VISUAL RESEARCH IN ACTION Photomonth_kropki_duze

MEETING ABOUT THE BOOK „VISUAL RESEARCH IN ACTION. AN ANTHOLOGY OF TEXTS"

What is the status of the image in social research? The publication fills a gap in academic studies of visual research methodologies and strategies for their use in analyses and changes in contemporary socio-cultural realities.

This is not one of the many books on visual culture in general, but a collection of texts which, where examples of specific research illustrate why and how to use the image in analyses of social life, concerning both universal and contemporary issues – new media, inequality, social change, knowledge, health and illness, and urban identity. The common denominator here is the study of society by means of the visual, first-hand and mediated by various technologies for emission and recording of images.

The publication contains texts not yet published in Poland, including:

John Berger Understanding a photograph;

Marisol Clark Ibáñez Framing the Social World with Photo-Elicitation Interviews;
