Baron magazine is a fashion magazine founded in London which builds its style around the concept of eroticism and its cultural meaning. In debates and in the fashion industry, the magazine’s aesthetics and contents have earned it the name “the art of photography”.
The workshop will consist of a presentation of Baron, a discussion on the magazine’s development and current structure, and a debate on the current form of  “contemporary fashion”. There will also be a photo session with invited fashion photographers from Poland, led by Baron magazine’s founder and art director.
The second part of the workshop (25 May 2013, 11.00–15.00) is a themed fashion session produced by the invited guests with the participation of young Polish fashion photographers. The results will be published in a Polish fashion magazine.

AF Workshop for children. Wet collodion technique

1.06, 11:00–17:00
Academy of Photography, ul. Grodzka 60, ul. Tomasza 17

Workshop led by: Łukasz Gietka
Registration: mfk2013[at]akademiafotografii.pl or by phone on 601 38 38 87 by 29 May 2013
Minimum age: 8. Free entry.

Wet collodion is a deceptive and brash technique, deviously keeping its qualities secret from the photographer, who has to become more of a chemist than an artist. Yet this effort is worth it – the resulting prints are unique. The entire elaborate process of sensitising, exposing and developing would be done wet. This fact was the curse of the new technique, but also what made it exceptional. Producing a photograph is complicated, and requires the person doing it to personally prepare the whole technical set-up. This results in a picture on a glass plate.

The workshop consists of a presentation of large-format photography techniques featuring invited guests from the Institute of Refined Techniques in Warsaw and a detailed representation of the ambrotype – a 19th-century refined photography technique based on the
wet collodion method.
During the second part of the workshop, participants will create their own photographs and make prints.

Two-day fashion photography workshop aimed at people who want to go behind the scenes of a fashion photographer’s work and try their hand in this field.
The class is divided into three modules: the theoretical part introduces participants to the realities of work in this area and the next stages of conducting a session, while the practical parts involves a photo session featuring models and a professional team responsible for make-up, styling and hair.

How many stories can be hidden in one photograph? Intuition would suggest that the answer is at least three – the story of the person or object immortalised in it, that of the person who took the photo, and finally that of the person who is looking, interpreting. The participants in the workshop with Andrzej Kramarz will have the opportunity to use a photo to talk about a subject or problem that is bothering them personally. They will learn how to edit photos to give this story the right rhythm and dramatic effect, and then transform it into a form – exhibition, book, press material – that is attractive for the recipient.
Everybody will complete their own photographic cycle. The individual work on the material will be accompanied by classes as a group (their value being exchange of different points of view). Field exercises will in each case be preceded by a lecture, discussion, presentation of photographs and analysis of them. Workshop participants will get to know various artistic approaches through an introduction to selected photographic trends, historical as well as contemporary. Aesthetic questions will be examined in combination with reflection on the anthropology of the image.
The latest publishing trends concerning art books will also be shown, and those who are keen will be able to begin preparing their own publication.

Workshops for kids

For the first time, Krakow Photomonth is inviting children to play an active part in events. The workshops for kids aged 2 to 12 offer creative fun inspired by photography. The joint artistic experiments will make use of children’s most precious characteristics – liveliness, spontaneity and joy at doing things together. The workshop plans are inspired by individual exhibitions from the Main Programme of Krakow Photomonth, and raise such subjects as the outer appearance and inner qualities of a person, expressing oneself through dress, camouflage, and technical issues connected with creating photography: framing, composition, light, background, graphic style and staging.

A great way to stir kids’ imagination and open them up for new ideas. Get ready!
