PHOTOMONTH IN KRAKOW — 2010
GRZEGORZ STEFAĹSKI
emptybottles
Curator: Karol Radziszewski
This is the confession of an artist who, following the tradition of intimate photography, turns his camera lens towards his own privacy and shows everyday life in his relationship with his partner. “Just as the universe is reflected in a drop of water, so in your own intimacy you can discover universal themes, even archetypes, which always remain private – yours. Intimate photography contains this dualism, this tension. It’s liberating,” he says.
Grzegorz StefaĹski (b. 1983, CzĹuchów)
Graduated in philosophy and is a student at the Academy of Photography. He took his first steps in the photography studio of Agata Pankiewicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Received a distinction in the Nordea Foto competition in 2007 and during the Fotoporuszenie Festival in 2004. “A conscious heresy with regard to one’s own creative choices is the basic principle for development, a way of maintaining a certain tension and long-term dynamism. Games with oneself are the élan vital. The point is not to get bored...” he states, declaring at the same time his fascination with conceptualism and intimate photography.
